Shaun Walker on .NET Rocks!

Posted by Tom on Tuesday, March 20, 2007 to DotNetNuke, DNN News

It’s always good to hear from the man himself. Here are some interesting tidbits from Shaun’s second appearance on DNR.

  • The National Rugby League is running DNN on a large web farm. Looks like the site has been featured on the DNN showcase for about a year. How did I miss that one?

  • I was happy to hear NYSEData.com mentioned on the show since we’ve developed the skin for the site (shameless plug intended :)

  • This is not DNN related, but it still struck me. How come people sometimes refer to hosting companies as ISPs? For me Internet Service Providers are companies such AT&T, Comcast, Verizon and so on. Almost anybody can put up a web hosting business; you don’t need to own the “pipes.” Or am I totally off here?

  • According to Shaun, the commercial DNN ecosystem generates about $2 million today and is forecasted to grown 10 fold over the next few years. I’m not sure how these numbers were generated, but it’s amazing nevertheless.

  • The question of what does DotNetNuke NOT do, meaning when is it NOT appropriate to utilize DNN and start a site from scratch instead, came up and Shaun scrambled for words for a minute, but he cleverly regrouped.

  • And lastly, I was surprised to learn that dotnetnuke.com itself was only running on two dedicated boxes (one web server and one database server). For some reason I always imagined at least a small web farm behind the site. Very interesting.

Listen to the show here. I also recommend any show on ASP.NET, especially the ones with the father of ASP.NET Scott Guthrie.
