To the Top of Google in Days

Just before Christmas I registered a client of mine with Google, Yahoo! and MSN local search with phenomenal results. All three engine will show local results above organic listings when searchers include a zip code, city or state in their query. So any "brick and mortar" business can get prime exposure for their website in a heartbeat.

Basic listings are free of charge. After creating a Google account and entering your business info, Google will send out a postcard to verify your location or you may verify by phone. Similar story for Yahoo! Sign in or create an account to enter your business details and after an internal review Yahoo! will usually list you within 3 – 4 days. MSN (or Live Search) takes their time; 30 – 60 days according to their registration form and for some reason they don’t provide an obvious “Add a Business” link. Instead, you need to go into the Help section of local.live.com to find the link to the registration form.

Either way, an excellent opportunity for minimal effort. Do it now!
